STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE
Christian stewardship is a central theme of the Orthodox faith. It is our personal expression of gratitude to God for his church and the many blessings he gives us including our health, our children and grandchildren, our jobs, our opportunities in life and our talents. As Christians, we affirm that we are simply caretakers of all God has given us. He expects us to use the gifts and money he has blessed us with to carry out his good works and to promote his Gospel. Our Lord teaches, “To whom much is given, much is expected” (Luke 12:48). We are also taught not to give based on just what we have, but to give based on how much we love. Stewardship enables us to give back to God and His Church with our time, our talents and our treasury.
Stewardship also allows our Church to carry out its vibrant ministries, meet your families’ spiritual needs, share our Orthodox faith, provide a comfortable and holy environment to worship and help the less fortunate of society.
Being a member of the Church.
To be a voting member of our church requires you to be a baptized Orthodox Christian and to become a steward of your gifts from God. A steward is active in the life of the Church and seeks to share his or her talents, time and money with the church. A steward is also expected to attend Liturgy on a regular basis and participate in the Sacraments.
Why is my Stewardship Pledge important?
Your stewardship pledge each year is vital because it enables the priests and church leaders to develop and plan a responsible budget for the coming year.
How else can I Support my Church?
You can show gratitude to your church and God by leaving a lasting legacy and remembering the church in your Will. Consider making a bequest of your estate to the church. If you are interested in doing so, contact the priest or Chairman of the Stewardship Committee and they will assist you in making out such a bequest.
You can also give non-cash assets which may result in a tax benefit to you. These gifts include:
- Stocks and bonds
- Mutual Funds
- Life Insurance
- Bequests/Estate Planning
