The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool balances teacher‐planned and child‐initiated learning, emphasizing responsiveness to children's strengths, interests, needs and learning styles. Nationally known for being forward‐thinking, comprehensive, and rigorously researched, it helps teachers plan and implement content‐rich, developmentally appropriate programs that support active learning and promote children's progress in all developmental areas.

Based on the latest research and best ideas about how children develop and learn, The Creative Curriculum® is professional development support that offers early childhood educators a comprehensive collection of resources to help build high-quality programs.

The Creative Curriculum® translates child development theory and research into best practice, clearly defining the teacher’s vital role in connecting content, teaching, and learning for preschool children. The philosophy is based on five fundamental beliefs that are strongly supported by theoretical and empirical research:

  1. Constructive, purposeful play is the best vehicle for meaningful learning
  2. The development of social competence is a key focus of the preschool years
  3. Relationships are the foundation for learning
  4. Curriculum and assessment must be linked
  5. Families are essential partners in children’s learning

Literacy: The Creative Curriculum® Approach utilizes the latest research about early literacy learning to create environments and offer experiences that inspire children to read and write. It focuses on six essential aspects of teaching literacy in the preschool classroom:

  1. Talking, singing and playing with language
  2. Reading aloud
  3. Storytelling
  4. Story retelling
  5. Writing
  6. Meaningful play
  7. Conducting long‐term studies

Mathematics: The Creative Curriculum® Approach builds upon children’s interests to promote mathematics learning through purposefully incorporating mathematical concepts and skills into daily classroom routines.
